I Feel Old

It's my 25th birthday this Sunday. That's right, a quarter of a century has passed since I was born. I don't know why, but this seems to make me feel much older than I have any right to!

Perhaps it is because the vast majority of the friends I see regularly are younger than me. Perhaps it is because my girlfriend is also younger than me. Perhaps it is because the majority of people I hung out with when the local internet cafe still existed were younger than me, or 98% of my workmates at my previous employment (the hive of scum and villainy known as McDonalds) were younger than me (also, they possessed a collective IQ of 12).

More likely, I feel old because my insurance premiums go down, because I'm no longer a "Young Adult", and simply an adult. Removing the word young makes me feel old!

On the other hand, I still play video games a lot (which some people see as childish, despite the fact that the average gamer's age is now in the 30s). I still watch cartoons (admittedly it is usually anime when I get a chance, but they *are* cartoons). I still block my ears when my parents turn their music up (well, some of the time anyway. If they ever play Queen I'm turning their music up further). I still would join in a food fight, if one broke out.

Then again, I have a full time job now, with all the goodness (money, interesting work to do) and not so goodness (its work!) that it entails. I lack the free time required to continue doing what I'd really want to do (which is simply copious amounts of gaming). I cannot do the Friday night gaming all nighters I used to pull with mates (most likely I would simply fall apart by 1am).

Also, XKCD managed to make me feel old. You bastage! :P

The Matrix was HOW LONG AGO?!?!?
On a slightly more informative note, tomorrow I'm attending a birthday party at Heartbreak Ridge paintball (not my birthday, a friend's one - and I won't to tell the people who don't know there that it's also my birthday until they run out of paint). On Sunday the rest of the family is coming over for Mother's Day (they didn't want to come, as far as I can tell, but Mum pulled the "it's his birthday!" card on them, to the dismay of all involved - myself included).

And me? Well, I plan on spending as much of Sunday playing Dragon Age 2 as possible.

Best Thing Ever

There's not much to say today. Kind of in a slump of things that have happened.
However, this weekend will change that.

Tonight and tomorrow the Distant Worlds: Final Fantasy concerts are on (Sarah and I are attending tomorrow night's show - as well as attending the meet and greet afterwards where we will meet Nobuo Uematsu, a fact which both excites me and intimidates me a little).

Sunday, we're going to do some archery. Fun times ahead.

From now, I am aiming to keep to an update schedule of Monday/Wednesday/Friday - hopefully giving me time to think of things to talk about, or at least some random things to ramble about like yesterday.

But for today, simply enjoy this photo of the early birthday present Mark bought for me. This is quite possibly the best thing ever - and useful too!

My Back Hurts.

Well, it did, anyway.

Last Friday was my girlfriend's birthday, and so we spent the weekend together doing random-but-already-somewhat-planned-by-her-mother stuff. Friday consisted of work, followed by giving her presents, then getting takeaway pasta from a nearby place. Luckily they were good on the gluten-free thing, so weren't killing me via foodiness.

She was given a new car stereo for her birthday - with a huge (read scary) subwoofer in the boot. Hilariously enough, the subwoofer unclips and can be removed if we want to use the boot for, you know, holding things.

I gave her a trinket box with a dragon on top, and a large dragon figure. I forgot to take a photo of it, but that wouldn't do it justice anyway. Its a large red dragon, wrapped around a castle tower, wings spread out. The entire figure is taller than my head - it surprised me when it came out of its box!

On Saturday morning, we went and had a massage. This is why my back hurt - it was my first time having a massage, and the dude probably figured out quite quickly what my occupation is, considering the amount of time he spent doing ouchy related things to my back and neck. Eventually I caved in and got the guy to put less pressure on me - as good as it would have done, it was simply hurting too much.

The massage did wonders for my fingers though, which I've annihilated with years of gaming.

After that, we spent some time gaming, then went out to a French restaurant for dinner. It was alright.

Sunday was a lazy day, spent mostly on videogames, and in the pool, though we did spend some time beginning the cosplay outfits. Now I have cut material for my cape. Kinda scary really, now that its started. We also went to the Starlight Cinema that evening, to watch Tomorrow When the War Began. The film was average (admittedly not as horrible as I expected the book to movie conversion to be), though the cinema people megafailed us.

Mainly due to the fact that, somehow, they had managed to have the focus of the projector completely wrong. The ads were crystal clear, but the movie was blurry as all hell - it was almost like I'd taken my glasses off for the duration of the film, without the comfort of actually not wearing my glasses! Annoying!

Anyways, Happy Birthday Sarah!
